Photogenic Spots in Southern Japan?

I am planning a trip to Japan in late March/early April. In addition to Tokyo, I plan to spend time in Southern/Western Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu.

Can anyone recommend a particularly beautiful area of coastline between Osaka and Fukuoka? Also, I'll be spending a bunch of time in Kyushu. Any recommendations for beautiful scenic spots, either along the coast or up in the mountains? How's the weather there at that time of year?

I'm also interested in recommendations for good urban photography spots in Kyoto, Osaka, Okayama, Fukuoka or Kumamoto.

Thanks!

I had a nice time in Okayama. Kurashiki was nice with its canals and interesting shops, and Ushimado was a coastal town which sold all kinds of olive goods (candy, soap, etc). It was also very photogenic from what I can remember. Not crowded, with more traditional Japan scenes.
