Smile The "Sagne" of Scanno

By Sandro Mongardini
The 7th HPA Nomination Award
According to the tradition, on St. Antonio’s Day, the men were normally wintering with their flocks on the coast, only women and the elderly people remained in the village. Thus, the women go to church for the Mass, and the elderly people cook the "sagne", a sort of gross “maltagliati” or noodles cooked in a mixture of water, lard, spices and ricotta cheese on the courtyard. At the end of the Mass, the sagne are blessed by the priest and distributed to all the present, locals or tourists.
