Default How to choose a title for a picture

Simply with well thought words that will provide an added value to your picture.

A proper title should convey additional information or provide an editorial comment that will attract attention, highlight the main idea or reveal the message.

For the title to have an impact, it must not only describe the picture. As an example, for a picture showing a horse and carriage, a title such as "horse and carriage" obviously is not adding any value.

I invite you to have a look on TE at some pictures and their corresponding titles; they could inspire you for your future uploads!

Try to keep your titles short, with a humoristic or philosophic accent. They will improve the impact of your images and help others remember them.

Je suis tout à fait d'accord avec Monique. Il faudrait faire preuve d'un peu d'imagination et cela apporterait un plus à ces merveilleux clichés que nous trouvons sur TE!

This is indeed one way of choosing a title for a photograph. Unfortunately, it also results in some really cheesy titles. Others might prefer to let their photographs convey the message...

I have to agree with Mark. By adding a title you are enforcing a meaning on the viewer. Rather, my preference is to use a purely informative title and let the viewer come up with their own interpretation.

I don't think that's such a great idea. This is a photography site after all and not a creative writing site. My main point is that the photograph is a million times more important than the title that you attach to it. Titles really don't matter much at all, and are counterproductive if they prevent you from making your own interpretation of a photo.
