Default To Sony F-717 users.

Has anybody informations about the tele converter (ratio 1,7) made by Sony for this camera, wether by using it or quoting a report. Thank you very much for your input.

I have a Sony F717 with the tele converter. It is useful, not much image quality loss. The only disadvantage I can think of is its weight.

Default Sony HG Series Lenses...

If possible you should buy the HG series of the lens you are looking at, The High Grade series is supposed to have greater optical quality, and is certainly better built than the other series.

I have the HG 0.7 wide angle, and apart from the weight as mentioned are very impressed by its optics. First time out with mine I dropped it onto the footpath, had to straighten the mashed threads, but it survived otherwise (I think).

Good luck.

Thanks for your input. I am thinking of the VCL-HG1758. Seems to be the high grade one. Have a good sunday.

I was following this thread with interest since I am also interested in a tele-converter for my F-717.

You mentioned Ornis that you were interested by the VCL-HGD1758 as it would be the high grade. But isn't it the only one sold by Sony?

Do I understand that it would be possible to buy one from another brand that would fit the F717, and maybe at a lower cost?

Before I have the teleconverter from Sony, I actually bought a cheaper telecon. But the image quality loss is great. So, although the one from Sony is more costly, but it is worth the price.

Sony proposes two tele converters (ratio 1,7). Both fit the 58mm thread, but according to what I found on different websites, there is a difference in look and in price.
The VCL-HG 1758 costs 408 euros and has a black and blue color.
The VCL-HGD 1758 costs 359 euros and has a silver aspect.
According to the sites both are made for the video camera DCRVX2000, but the HGD is announced also for the F-717.
Prices in USD is cheaper (HG at 256$ and HGD at 219$)
I found these infos, plus some users reports by searching with just the reference on Google.
I'll be back if I find more info at a Sony specialist in Paris next week.

With my new F717 bought 1 month ago the accessories booklet only talks about the HGD1758 (silver)for the F717 at 550$ CAN, that would be about 400$ US.

... my error. It appears the MH series (cheaper, lighter, smaller) is only available for the 0.7 converter, not the teleconverter?

Either way, any 58mm device, and there are quite a few from the likes of Raynox etc, will do the job. Just be careful about what sort of attributes you would like though - try before you buy.

Some adapters have notable barrel distortion or vignetting on various zoom settings - but you might like this (as I do sometimes).

Bon chance. Mark.

Thanks for the info, I might look for a non-Sony and good advice to try it before.
