Default (Luko) Workshop: The Grand Matriarch At Work

I have my own sharpen script that I run through Pshop regardless of the pic quality, it has always improved the image :
- USM : effect 18, radius 40, threshold 0
- USM : effect 150 radius 0.3, threshold 0
- edit/fade USM, 100%, darken blend mode,
- USM : effect 150 radius 0.3, threshold 0
- edit/fade USM, 50%, brighten blend mode.
Save it at once and run it every time you want!

- I applied my script to your pic, reult was much more brilliant red colors,
- then cropped what I could on the right side and balanced the format with a slight top cropping,
- pulled slight the bootom of the curves to beef the contrast up in the darker tones.
framed, et voilą...

Couldn't find out how to post here the explanation of the reasons for such passes under USM. Here is the link to Luko's explanation - very helpful.

Manny's fantastic photo and Luko's excellant workshop finally motivated me to understand how to perform actions and the concept of multiple Unsharp masking in Photoshop. Thanks Nina for highlighting this workshop.

hi im kinda new to photoshop and photography.
i can't seem to find the darken blend mode and the brighten blend mode you are talking about, only darken mode and lighten mode. (it doesnt contain blend in the word, and it says lighten not brighten)
if this is my version of photoshop (CS2) or lack of plu-gins please let me know :)

Regards Nick Pedersen

ps. im not getting the wanted effect either for this setup, thats why im asking if that could be the problem.

darken and lighten mode are blend modes along with all other modes in the pull down menu.
