Great KevRyan 2007-02-10 16:55

Another great use of the tilt Mike and great tonal values - you've developed a good technical ability with your use of contrast....great lines. How much of this was from the you do an amount of pp once scanned?

best wishes Kev

Default To KevRyan: contrast and scanning

Hi Kev,

Thanks for the critique!

This was actually scanned direct from the HP5 negative and was pretty low in contrast compared to what I did to it here in post processing, though I tend to be less experimental with achieving contrast with film compared to digital--tends to be overall level/curves adjustments with some fine tooth dodging and burning (I think I burned in some parts of the train to make it easier to read the text).

Looking forward to meeting up in London!

Thanks for that Mike. I wondered too if it was a scanned neg.........I'm off to China for the first time in March.....busy work trip so not sure how much time there will be for photography. I have been asked to work with someone else to make a short film about it though. We're going to Sichuan and Chunkqing on a kind of cultural 'go see' to establish relations with Chinese art centres, artists and museums.

See you soon - for real!

best wishes Kev
