Tell that to Mr. Sabyasachi...He's the owner of that photo...
----------------
But...Since you asked me... I'll elaborate for a moment:
Several days ago I responded to the suggestion that my homeless, wigged, weirdo guy from Chicago is somehow as good as latest Luko's Indian guy...
http://www.trekearth.com/read.php?f=2&t=437642&m=611942
...and my response will partly explain my philosophy on the subject of photos of people from India...
Why this photo, then ?
Because it is BOLDER than any other photo... Indian or not...
It has the balls, the guts... And it is presented with such powerful demonstration of photographic possibilities AFTER the shooting is done...
I'm talking about PP stuff here !
The photo hits you right in the face...Either you hate it (I had that commotion), or love ... You can't IGNORE IT... No way in f******* hell you're allowed to ignore it...
And you didn't Maciek...
It's been several weeks and ...YOU didn't...!!!!!
It burns the question in your brains...
"Why..? What so special within it...
Is this the same s**t as thousands of others, awarded with green macaques for no slightest reasons whatsoever, or is it something special ???"
Well… It's UNIQUE in its presentation form.
UNIQUE is the most powerful and meaningful word on TE this days… ( My call ? Sure! I introduced it and still do , as you may see )
With half-a-million pictures on display… It better be…
And this picture is UNIQUE….
-----------------------------------------
There is also very private & egoistical reason for me to asses this photo high….
This one is just one of the very few Sabyasachi' works, where the noise removing/softening/shitting/damaging, repulsive Neat Image software haven't been used NOTICABLY to the surface of the photo, to induce as much rapid as violent vomiting upon my monitor…
There are few more in there I commented (Wonderful Mowgli !!!!!!), and they have that ugly treatment applied visibly (yuck !), but… The main character in the pictures is of such magnitude - I forgot about the whole affair with the Neat Image (or whatever it is !), and jump up to the skies out of appreciation..

There…

Take care, guys…
Don't talk 'bout me when I'm gone…
(:-)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Ciao
g.

>The photo hits you right in the face...

yes, because it is terrible.
i don't want Sabyasachi to take it personal, just my opinion. when somebody told me it was the highest rated photo here I just couldn't belive, i was like WHAT? anyway, i don't like it, terrible post-processing with half of the image burned into black, it is blurry. the man has interesting face, and that's all. we have a great example of a snow ball effect here in my opinion. but it is allright, if people like it then fine, I don't.
Sabyasachi - no offence please, it is just an opinion about one photo, you have lots of great images, but this one is not for me ;)

Default No Offence Taken

Hi Maciej,
I just came across the interesting discussion you had with George regarding this photo. Absolutely no offence taken, everybody is allowed to have their opinion and you have yours, which is highly appreciated. I take criticism as part of my learning process. So don't worry, I can bear it;)
Best Wishes
Sabyasachi
