Great batalay 2006-10-24 17:34

Hello Patrick,
I like the image of the Agri Dagi you've posted. Although not very steep, it is largely rubble near the base, and difficult to climb for that reason -- climb forward three steps, slip forward one step. I climbed the mountain in 1984, on an expedition to find 'the Ark.' I was serving as the "cautious scientific advisor," and among the group was the astronaut who drove the first car on the moon. As a physicist I frequently told members of our team that there is not enough water on the surface of earth -- even if you melt the poles and condense the water in the atmosphere -- to get the level of the seas more than 100-200 meters above the present level. The fundamentalist were certain it was there.

I believe that the flooding of the black sea around 7500 BC by the Mediterranean breaking through the Bosphorus is a much more reasonable site for the historical basis of a large flood. Robert Ballard, who discovered both the Titanic and the Bismark, found some coastal replicas of a settlement around the shore of a fresh water lake that existed within the boundary of the black sea.

I like this shot and your other photo of Isak Pasa Palace near Dogu Beyazit.

Default To batalay: thanks!

thanks a lot for your comment and your story about the climb of the Agri Dagi, which is... incredible! Thanks a lot for writing me. From time to time I read on papers of new expeditions to find the 'ark'. Obviously it can't be there and I find the hypothesis you mention very convincing.

thanks a lot again!
