Photographer's Note

Simple exotica from Timimoun, an oasis town in central Algeria, by road roughly 1000 km southwest of the capital Algiers. I spent a couple of days here on a journey through Algeria in the autumn of 1975. Now my time machine brought me back.

Timimoun is one of the most picturesque towns in Algeria, built in an almost uniquely uniform style. Practically every building is built of bricks and plastered with the same red/brown mud.

I found this in one of my files of unused scanned photos. It wasn't until after I decided to post it now that I realized I had already shown a very similar photo, taken moments earlier. But that was 10 years ago, so I may be forgiven for repeating myself.

Here is a larger version.

In the WS you can see another unused photo, scanned years ago. In a way I like it better, but it wasn't scanned well enough to qualify as a main photo.

I have of course through the years posted other photos from this amazing little town, like this of a bakery and this of a running girl, and this panorama.

Both today's photos were scanned from Kodachrome slides.
