On one of my previous posts from Deserto do Viana i was asked why it was B&W. Here you see the reason. The sand in Deserto do Viana is almost white, even with a polarizer you might at best get a slight tone of yellow out of it. In combination with the cloudy weather the situation is already 75 % B&W :-)

Although it looks pale on the image, the feelings you have walking through are very "colourful" and exciting. There are always strong winds present, making it almost impossible to go close to the ground (especially with the camera!!!), the sand grains really hurt. Still you will feel the heat, you are sweating, the sand sticks on every part of your body (and beneath your cloth!!!). You feel that nature is so much stronger than we are...
