Photographer's Note

I thought that I would post another from Amboseli N.P. The Amboseli elephants are famous as many have huge tusks (tuskers) and live alongside man fairly well. They have also been studied and filmed, particularly one herd led by the matriach Echo (a BBC film). Echo died in 2009 from a combination of old age and the three year drought which I mentioned in my previous upload. The drought had reached a devastating stage when we visited in October 2009 with many animals dependent on grass dead or dying. The adult elephant here is tearing up roots to try and get important nutrients. The baby elephant seems small and vulnerable.
