Photographer's Note
The quiver tree or Aloe dichotoma or Kokerboom is probably the best known aloe found in South Africa and Namibia.
This distinctive tree aloe has smooth branches, which are covered with a thin layer of whitish powder that helps to reflect away the hot sun's rays. The bark on the trunk forms beautiful golden brown scales. The crown is often densely rounded as a result of the repeatedly forked branches, hence the species name dichotoma (dichotomous meaning forked).
The green leaves are borne on terminal rosettes and its bright yellow flowers are borne from June to July. The young flower buds can be eaten and have a similar appearance and taste to asparagus.

Yves.

Amazing angle, complemented by a tasty filter. The quivers are in their full majesty.
Is the moon real? It seems too big to be true?
Cheers,

Hello Andre,
This is magnificent. Using a tripod certainly was the corrrect thing to do as the sharpness and exposure are wonderful. The composition with the three trees on a diagonal are super and well done for filling the space in that fabulous sky with the moon.
Excellent.

Salut André,
olala...pfff, elle arrache grave celle-ci. Double claque!

Hi Andre. Enchanting composition in which the desolation is further enhanced by the barren yet lovely moon. The light and colours are pure magic. Beautiful shapes and excellent sharpness. Poetic creation. Best wishes. Klaudio.

hi Andre,
I don't know if it's the amazing Namibian light of which so many people talk about, or the moon, or the dreamy colours - but this photo makes me feel like in Tim Burton's Big Fish movie... there is a "real-unreal" feeling about it, an oneiric quality to the atmosphere of this setting, that fascinates me. I am not often impressed by landscape photography, which is a genre I do not follow much, but your masterly treatment of both subject and light situation really stuns me.

Pascale

Hello Andre,
Wonderful photo with a great, balanced composition but what amazes me most - as you will have well known - is the rich gradient of sky colours and that huge moon over the trees. Seriously impressive!

Spectacular!
Those trees seem to be from another World!
In addition to that, the exposure, colors, chosen pov and composition with that magnificent moon, created such a supernatural mood here!
I love it!
TFS - congrats,
Have a great week-end,

Hello Andre,
An excellent exposed photo and a excellent compostion an point of view (The trees are on a nice diagonal line).
Without the moon, then I had enough enjoyed from this picture.
Now with the moon I compare it as a delicious sorbet after a delicious diner.
The photo also has something of the airbrush paintings what you often saw in the eighties
In summary: this picture has a wow factor.
Friendly reagards and have a nice weekend,
Robert

Quelle image !

Young handsome guy ;-)
To my VERY big surprise i see you posting here...man i didn't know that. I was following the link you send me. And see here, Namibia, high on my list but you were first once again. Seeing this one and the other ones you shot from there i can only say, awesome high quality work my friend. A place i really would like to go, just as the high dunes and the Dead Vlie
Light is gorgeous, just as the gradient in the sky and the composition.....full moon is a huge bonus of course.
You stiil know how to produce appealing images my friend, we need to go out shooting together again...if you don't come over here than i am forced to visit you in JB ;-)
Take care buddy, big hugs for both of you!!!!
Your friend from the north ;-)

The light is great, but it seems also tricky. You have greatly captured both shadows and highlights (any tips, please?). TFS. As to composition - it's fine, but I've got a feeling that moving your camera slightly to the left(if that was possible without getting something unnecessary in the frame), it would be even better.

Hi Andrea
alot of useful information in your write up, thats really important as it makes the photo that much better.
the skyline is beautiful, ranging in colors from yellow, to orange, to purple, and then blue.
the composition of the trees give depth and tracks the eye across the frame.
I'm really impressed most of all with the ability to capture the moon to well. everytime i try to, it gets washed out, but not here.
impressive photo
well done
cheers

Hi Andre,
Another remarkable photo from you, I think I did miss lots of things here in TE, how come I missed this?! With all the moon and purple skies, this photo is just surreal! Did you use filter for this one? Your expertise on handling the exposure is just well evident on this photo (well not to mention the others). Fantastic colors! Wonderful ambiance, great image!
Thanks for sharing,
Matt

Hello Andre - Lots of pics to catch up with since we got back but this one of yours is outstanding. An artistic and quite surreal treatment of the landscape. Quality is excellent from the subtle colours and textures in the FG (I love the grasses) though to the overall composition this is a treat. Your work continues to stand as a benchmark on the site both in visual and technical aspects and encourages me to persevere. Thanks Rosemary

Hi Andre
With such amazing sky and full moon it's easy to forget about the composition but I'm glad to see you didn't! :-) The line of trees leads the eye from one edge of the image to the other and creates a sense of perspective.
I wonder what time of the day it was - I assume the sun was rising and the moon was setting.
Best wishes
Kasia
