Photographer’s Note

J’étais en tournée au fin fond du Sénégal Oriental
J’avais quitté Dakar et ses embouteillages monstres. J’avais rejoint Tambacounda après 10 heures de route et des nuages de poussière.
Puis j’étais reparti à l’Est vers le Mali.
A Goudiri, nous avions quitté la route et continué dans la brousse.
3 heures de pistes défoncées entre les baobabs et les branches d’acacias qui griffaient la carrosserie du 4x4. Il n’y avait rien d’autre que la poussière et le soleil brûlant.
Qui pouvait vivre ici ?

A Toumboura, nous avons construit un centre de santé parce qu’il n’y avait rien auparavant.
Et puis Siré est venu en sortant de l’école d’infirmier. Et puis Yacine, son assistante, et puis les autres.
Ils venaient de très loin en laissant leurs familles. Ils étaient coupés du monde. Ils avaient accepté l’aventure. Ils voulaient aider et servir. Ils n’avaient presque rien pour soigner et n’avaient pas de recours. Ils étaient admirables.

Alors que je pensais trouver l’ennui et la désolation.
J’ai trouvé le sourire et le courage de Yacine

I was in a trip at the far Senegal Oriental. I had left Dakar and his monsters traffic jams. I had joined Tambacounda after 10 hours of road and the clouds of dust.
Then I had set out again in the East towards Mali.
In Goudiri, we had left the road and had continued in the bush. 3 hours of tracks smashed between the baobab trees and the branches of acacias which scratched the body of the 4x4.
There were anything else only dust and the extreme sun. Who could live here?

In Toumboura, we built an health centre because there was nothing before. And then Siré came while leaving the school male nurse. And then Yacine, his assistant, and then others.
They came by far while leaving their families.
They had accepted the adventure. They wanted to help and be useful. They did not have almost anything to look after and did not have a recourse.
They were admirable.

Whereas I thought finding the trouble and desolation. I found the smile and the courage of Yacine

An outstanding portrait..though i feel the bokeh is a bit flat..nothing you do i guess if the bg didnt throw satisfying results..

Superbe portrait ! La profondeur de champ est parfaitement gérée, la netteté excellente, et la posture et le regard de Yacine sont superbes. J'aurais juste cadré un poil plus large à gauche pour ne pas couper le foulard qu'elle porte sur la tête.

J'espère que ce magnifique portrait ne subira pas le sort des deux (soit disant) portraits de modèles (même seulement en vignettes ils sont splendides). Je ne vois pas la raison que l'on pourrait trouver!La beauté de Yacine est encore plus évidente quand on a lu ta note. La lumière qui illumine son beau visage est juste parfaite et quelle qualité d'image!

Un beau portrait où la simplicité se débat avec une certaine gaucherie, très touchante, ou bien est-ce une sublime humilité.
