Photographer’s Note

We were riding through the country side around Phnom Penh, passing through many rural villages and pagodas and at about 40kms away from the capital, we stopped in one temple.
There were monks of different ages standing in the hall of one the pagodas
I came closer to them, without forgetting to take off my shoes, my headgear.

***********
In the traditional Cambodian society, men must enter the monkhood, to show devotion to their temples and their families, for at least a period of three months during their lifetime.
Today, being an apprentice monk not only provides students an opportunity to learn the teachings of the Buddha, but also gives them the chance to access a high school and university education in Phnom Penh, they would otherwise be unable to afford.
