Photographer's Note

This is the Nanpu Bridge over the Huangpu river, Shanghai, I took the shot out of the back of the bus.

Completed and opened to traffic on Dec. 1, 1991 Nanpu Bridge is 8, 346-m long, with the main body 846-m long,3036-m wide and a span 0f 423 m and a net height of 46m, accessible for ships up to 55,000 tons. It was the fourth largest double-tower and double-cable slant-drawn bridges in the world at it's time of compleation . The “H” shape bridge tower is 150 m on which is inscribed by Comrade Deng Xiaoping the four Chinese characters “南浦大桥” (Nanpu Bridge). On the surface of the main bridge are 8 lanes for automobiles and a sidewalk on each side. Visitor can take the elevator up the bridge for enjoying the scenery on both sides of the bridge. Nanpu Bridge is the first large bridge over the Huangpu River.
