Another typical street scene from Calcutta.You can see the famous Tipu Sultan Mosque in central Calcutta photographed from across the Chowringhee Road.The Tipu Sultan Shahi Mosque (also known as Tipu Sultan Masjid) is a famous mosque in Calcutta, India. Located at 185 Dharamtalla Street, the mosque is a relic of architectural and cultural heritage.It was built in 1842 by Prince Ghulam Mohammed, the youngest son of Tipu Sultan.The Mosque has 16 domes and 4 minarets and has a capacity of 1000.

Hi Farhat,
The mosque is very elegant but unfortunately, it seems to have sprouted appendages that are not commensurate with its beauty. I like the inclusion of those two vehicles on the street.

The main subject here looks absolutely great with its unique design and architectural elements. I am sure this must be a fantastic mosque but why is it surrounded by the market? I don't get it, maybe this is a cultural thing. Anyway, beautifully seen and photographed! TFS!

Fabulous clear image over the street and up to the mosque roof-top turrets.
Impossible to count, but a very impressive set of small turrets and 4 big towers, and the domes within.

Hello Farhat,
Another kind of nostalgic photo for me from a place I have walked by many times. This mosque is a small gem in a noisy and busy area. The good light has given you very nicely mild colours. It's an interesting fact that the two cars are not the traditional Ambassadors, as they would have been just a few years ago.

You say 'typical' street scene, where as my Western eyes say "whoa!" :) What a collection of different elements in this frame, I love how it all comes together...but the mosque still looks out of place to me. lol Beautiful just the same to see from this vantage point, and a wonderful mix of modern and ancient. I am glad to see it. The city is so famous and yet I would not be able to recall seeing any building from it. This seems like a really beautiful structure here, you had a bit difficult light with white sky which does not help the colors but the architecture is so interesting anyway.
