Photographer's Note

Hindu marriages have, to me, quite complicated
rituals. One of them is what we are seeing on
that picture. The bride's maternal uncle has
to give green bangles and toe rings.
Se has to wear the green bangles the day before
wedding, until 10/15 days after when she returns
to her family's house, where her mother will
replace them with red bangles, leaving only 1
or 2 green ones.
Regarding the toe rings, she'll have to wear
them the day after the wedding.
In case of husband's death, she'd have to remove
both the rings and bangles and put them onto
the funeral pyre.
