Photographer's Note
Unusual architecture in Nagoya, Japan. I've cloned out an intrusive street lamp at left.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mode_Gakuen_Spiral_Towers
"Mode Gakuen Spiral Towers (モード学園スパイラルタワーズ Mōdo gakuen supairaru tawāzu?) is a 170-metre (558 ft), 36-story educational facility located Nakamura-ku, Nagoya, Aichi, Japan. The building is home to three vocational schools: Nagoya Mode Gakuen, HAL Nagoya and Nagoya Isen." Now I know what the 'MODE', 'HAL', 'ISEN', that appear vertically on the building mean.
'Gakuen' is Japanese for 'Academy'. Taken February last year on an overcast day. There is a trombone type sculpture in front of the building.

Hi Chris,
Impressive building, I would not have really realized just how big it is until I see the van and the poeple in the foreground. Certanly, Janpanese cities are great places to photograph interesting and beautiful architecture. the light is low but the whole scene if nicely exposed with good color and details. Great shot and give good impression of the place.
Way.
p.s. my shot was taken in October, my misteak on recording the date.

Hello Chris,
Some modern architecture leaves you cold because of its lack of visual impact but some makes you stand open-mouthed. This falls into the second category; it has sensual curves, changes in materials and planes and makes a strong, visual statement amongst the other buildings.
Your shot, along with its sharpness, gives a real appreciation of its scale and its impact.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Chris,
Impressive architecture, evocative of a thick skin being peeled off. The equilateral triangles in the external structure must give it considerable structural integrity. I can't help but think about how the edifice would "settle" in an earthquake. Last August we had an earthquake of 5.8 on the Richter Scale here in the Washington, DC area. In a storage room in the basement I had a series of metal bookcases. As a result of the earthquake, an top-heavy bookcase suddenly twisted and collapsed, somewhat evocative of the Mode Hal Isen Building.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hello Chris! This photo is taken with good idea I know that my comment "Your skill in photography is excellent" will be an understatement. Really, you have got a pair of eyes for all details. Here I find a perfect balancing of light, toning and without by others details. This is why it is so mysterious. Great. Regards.

hello Chris
un excellent choix d'angle de prise de vue pour montrer la structure architecturale de cet immeuble d'un graphisme très complexe.
Malgré les mauvaises lumières tu as obtenu en plus de jolis reflets.
Regards.
Daniel.

Hi Chris
interesting photo and architecture.
I can't help but wonder how this would look in Blue Hour or some very warm golden sunlight.
a spectacular visual, so many composition choices come to mind just viewing this one. Even a reflection is captured.
also, interesting read about the location of the powerplants in your discussion with Bulent.
thanks for this one, enjoy your day

Hi Chris,
The branches are helping to frame the scene. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the architecture of the modern building. The cloudy sky is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Chris,
this is a wonderful composition from a very well chosen point of view. It presents the individual features of the architecture in a very clear and complete way. I think that the dull light was a great aid to focus on architectural details and effects rather than on colours and reflections, but I also think it would be interesting to see this building in different lightings, that would be the point for the architect. I like very much the placement of the Spiral Tower in the cadre, leaving a nice sense of space around it and presenting a striking contrast with neighbouring buildings. The reflections on the glass surface are lovely. Well done!
All the best and a lovely weekend,
Ourania

Hello Chris,
A massive building captured beautifully with the full view. The details are so sharp including the reflection. I like the architecture , the soft colors and depth. The people standing in the front give us an idea about the size. Truly amazing.

Hi dear Chris
yes, an unusual architecture alright. I noted that this twisty type skyscraper was all the rage in Kuala Lumpur too. Excellent vertical frame, the inclusion of the people and the traffic also gives us a sense of scale.
Nice work, enjoy your weekend

Does one have to have a twisted mind to work at this building? We have a building here in Vegas designed by Frank Gehry, and get this, a clinic for brain problems and it looks like it's melting. Good pov and dof with nice details even if it's cloudy. Well done, tfs.

Hi Chris,
I like the steely grey tones against the grey sky. Fascinating architecture that has been very well photographed. The hint of lights in the building and the reflections give depth to this super iamge.

Hi Chris,
Fascinating architectural shot. At first glance, it reminded me instantly of Frank Gehrys dancing building in Prague, with its sweeping form. This building dances alone, and that serves well to emphasise its height.
Best wishes

It is definitely unique and special architecture's wonder, Chris.
The POV shows excelent view of it's curves, mirror view of an opposite-edifice and a clarinet-shape statue on street level on side.
Fine shot inspite of the clouds, shown in full view.
Enjoy a nice weekend,
Ike
