On the Mekong, between Houei Xai and Pakbeng, Ban Pak Tha is a small village Lao Loum.
There are three categories of people in Laos: Lao Loum (of the lower part), Lao Theung (of the top) and the lao Soung (mountain dwellers). This classification takes into account the various habitats, by beginning with the plains of the river Mekong to arrive finallement at the most peak of the mountains of North.
Half of the population is Lao Loum, 30% are Lao Theung and 18 % are Lao Soung.
The lao Loum live close to the rivers and speak the lao. According to official classification, they live from 200 to 400 meters of altitude. They are sedentary and live culture of rice. Lao Loum are composed of white Taï, Taï blacks, red Taï... They are Buddhist Théravada. The women Lao Loum carry the Sin (skirt Laotian) and the men carry Sarongs. They live in heighten houses.
After his meal this young Lao Loum agreed to pose for me...

Bonjour Josselin.
Joli portrait ici. J'aurais cadré un peu plus bas, en coupant le haut de la tête pour créer une ligne parallèle à celle de son regard, technique de plus en plus utilisée en portrait pour mettre l'accent sur le regard.

Hi Josselin,
A fantastic portrait of this young child. His expression is good. I like the details like the string around his neck, is there some special meaning to this?
Regards
Wanda
