Photographer's Note

The Kuching Waterfront is a place where people can take a relaxing stroll along the bank of the Sarawak river, buying souvenirs; having a glass of cool beer or just enjoying the nice view of the river and the Malay settlement directly across the waterfront. One can also see the Astana where once the White Rajah of Sarawak (Sir James Brooke) stayed. It is now the official residence of the Governor. Also across the river and just next to the Astana stands the Fort Margherita which was used to deter the pirates and head-hunters from terrorizing the state. It is now turned into the Police Museum.
In this picture you can see a family visiting Kuching boarding the “Tambang” to get across the river to have a closer look at these two interesting colonial buildings.
