Photographer’s Note

Sleepy camels at dawn, with the amazing sandhills of Khongorin Els (Singing Sands) as a backdrop for the Gobi Desert in southern Mongolia. These dunes are only about 5-10 km wide, but are almost 500 km long, sandwiched between two parallel mountain ridges.

Hi Achim,

The point of view takes my eye toward the top of the sandhills which is giving depth to the composition. It is also showing the details and colors of the camels. The early morning light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice dya.

Hello Chris,
A good composition of this herd of camels that puts in the context of the desert landscape beyond. The colours are saturated but not unpleasant and suit the mood of the shot. The strip of blue sky makes a pleasing contrast against the dominant golds and yellows. Very good sharpness throughout.

Impressive sight, a sea of camels. The warm colors against the cerulean blue create a dramatic contrast. I am curious about the crescent-shaped patches on their hinds — are they some sort of branding?

Hi Chris.
Just been doing a bit of catching up on your gallery. This one's a beauty. The morning light is wonderful as it illuminates this array of camels' heads and humps in remote Mongolia. The sand-hills look strange but make a great backdrop for this one, in which you have captured the vastness of the place as well as the close-up of the animals.
