Photographer's Note

Drone Photography of tumulus and balbal near Khotgor (7 km north).

The Nuurst Khotgor Coal Mine (Mongolian: Нүүрст хотгор, Coal bowl) is an open-pit coal mine, located about 80 km west of the Uvs.

We arrived at night and we had snow during the night. This is the beautiful scenery we found in the morning (2230 m).

A tumulus (plural tumuli) is a mound of earth and stones raised over a grave or graves. Tumuli are also known as barrows, burial mounds or kurgans in Mongolia.

The boundaries of the big tumuli are highlighted by snow that does not homogeneously cover the rocks (warmer) and the soil. The large tumuli are clearly visible, like the small rounds used for offerings.
Finally, the balbal (deer stones) are erected in the center left.
