Photographer's Note

This was taken from the lower deck of a ferry boat moored at a small pier in Pakokku during a brief stop on a twelve hour downstream journey on Irrawaddy river from Mandalay to Nyaung U. It's an excellent way to go back in time and get a glimpse into local lives and it was an interesting sight with crowds of people waiting along the shoreline to load and unload goods from the boat with passengers came and went. Vendors were running out to meet the approaching vessel shouting out their wares for sale.

It was such a colourful photo opportunity and not about only photography, but it reflects the universal struggle of human beings as seen through my lens that always struck me, being one of most unforgettable sights during this journey.

Her face markings, pleading eyes and determination say alot......
