Photographer's Note

A crucifixion scene at Cutud, Sta. Lucia, Pampanga. This Good Friday event, a Catholic tradition, had become a tourist attraction in this small town in the Northern Philippines. This year there were 14 people who were lined up to be crucified, including a British guy, who at the last moment had to withdraw because of high blood pressure.

Mostly devout Catholics and mostly men, the sacrifice of being literally nailed to the cross on Good Friday is part of a tradition or panata, made for different reasons. Some people do it for their families, or some for a promise made to God for giving them something close to a miracle. All of them do it for faith.
