Photographer's Note

This is a view of one of the up-river that goes down and joins Loboc River. The name of the young cook is Aimee. She is 14 years old. She barbecues green bananas. This is the type of bananas that must be cooked for consumption. When cooked a local syrup is placed on top, or depending on the person the banana may be dipped in brown sugar. I was observing Aimee while she cooks in front of hot charcoal, fanning the charcoal so it continues to burn. She is obviously uncomfortable because of the heat of the fire and the heat of the day’s temperature, but she still gives that big sweet smile to the customers. At her back is a bamboo shed with palm leaf roof. There are benches inside so customers may eat in the shade, a relief from the heat of the sun. I asked her if I can take her pictures and she just smiles. I take that as a “Yes” answer. I also took a close-up of her face which I am posting on TL.
