Petrovskiy Putevoy Palace, a photo from Moscow, Center

Photographer's Note

When I was to Moscow, my hotel Aeropolis was situated near this palace, just across the Leningradskiy Prospekt (former Tver highway).

The palace was built by Catherine II in 1776-1780 after the successful completion of the Russian-Turkish war of 1768-1774 as a residence for the rest of the nobility after a long journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow (hence its name contains the word ‘Putevoy’, ‘Driveway or Travel one’ in English) according to a project developed by architect Matvey Kazakov at the then-entrance to Moscow in the Russian Neo-Gothic architectural style. It was allocated for the construction on an unused land belonging to the Vysokopetrovskiy Monastery.

At present, the palace is within the city (the nearest metro station is "Dynamo"). Behind the palace, there is the preserved part of Petrovskiy Park, set in the early XIX century.
