Granada - Reserva Natural Volcán Mombacho

Another interesting daytrip in Granada is a visit of the Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve.
This national park is located just south of the city and the islets in the Lake of Nicaragua.
Due to an earlier eruption of the volcano, the 365 islands arose in the lake (see previous photo).

Although the 1.435 m. high volcano Mombacho is still active, it’s been a few decades since its last eruption. Today it is completely covered with vegetation that forms a particular ecosystem.

In the park you have a choice of several trails. One is leading to fumaroles which, however, are not too spectacular to take a picture.
There are very nice hikes through the cloud forest.
At a certain place you have a view over Lake Nicaragua and the islets and also a view of Laguna de Apoyo (I’ve shown this laguna already a while ago). But in general you find yourself in a tropical forest with plants and trees all around and above you. That made it not easy, I think, to take representative pictures.
