Photographer's Note

Hello friends and colleagues, today I offer another composition with another view of this beautiful Austrian lake, I hope you like it, then some letters on the lake.

Attersee, also known as Kammersee, sometimes English Lake Atter, is the largest lake in the Salzkammergut region in the Austrian state of Upper Austria. It is the third largest lake in Austria by area, surpassed only by Lake Constance and Lake Neusiedl, which, however, both extend beyond national borders.

The surface extends for about 20 km from north to south and 4 km from east to west. With an average depth of 85 m (279 feet), its water volume even exceeds the Chiemsee, which is larger by area.

The main entrance is the Seeache Brook, which flows out of the nearby Mondsee Lake in the southwest. Both Attersee and Mondsee are part of a chain of lakes, starting with Fuschlsee and Irrsee. The waters flow with the river Ager until the Traun that is discharged in the Danube in Linz.

In the south-west of the lake, the Schafberg ("mountain of sheep"), part of the Salzkammergut mountains, rises to 1,782 m, separating it from Lake Mondsee, whose southern shore limits with the state of Salzburg. The Höllengebirge karst mountain range (literally "mountains of hell"), with a height of up to 1862 m (6,109 ft), is located southeast of the lake.

Due to its constant winds and clean water quality, Attersee is famous for attracting sailors and swimmers alike. During the season there are numerous sailing competitions. One of the most cherished winds in Attersee is the so-called "Rosenwind" which means "breeze of roses". It is an east wind that crosses the rose garden of a castle and fills the air through the lake with the smell of roses. Surrounding settlements rely heavily on tourism, mainly in spring, summer and autumn.

Due to the size of the lake and despite the low temperatures during the winter, the lake rarely freezes. The last time the lake was completely covered in ice was in the late 1940s, when people saw themselves skating and riding motorcycles across the frozen thick surface of the lake.
