History from the Castle and St. Anne St. Anna Park.
The St. Anne's Castle was once the hospital of Maldegem. The founder of this hospital was Canon of Maldeghem Arnout, Maldegem from where he was born on the farm WARHEM. In 1273 gave it a mental large part of its property, located in and around Maldegem, on St. John's Hospital.
Yet another account from the archives of the St. John's Hospital (1573-1574) we found that the chaplain of Maldegem two missing every week celebrated in the chapel of the hospital, but in 1596 - 1567 was no longer the case. Probably the iconoclasts were here for something in between. In any case, the sick were transported to Bruges now to care where they were treated completely free and even got an amount to return to Maldegem to start.
In 1957 the municipality bought Maldegem the domain of the heirs of Frederic Dhont. The park was opened to the publican here it seemed that the beautiful mansion to disappear. Conducted by an effective action (Trial Bruges) St. Anne was restored after all.
It was not the first time that the inhabitants Maldegem stood up for their historical heritage. Since 1981 Maldegem police feel at home in the St. Anne Castle. The building itself is probably from the late 18th century built. Its final form was given in 1857: this year are found on a medallion in gates.
