Kaprijke 20km of Ghent against the Netherlands borders

Hof Ter Kruisen, Kaprijke

The Renaissance castle Hof ter Kruisen in Kaprijke dates from the mid-sixteenth century. Presumably it was built as a mansion. This is a sort of country retreat for wealthy city dwellers, who leased the farm but reserved certain parts for themselves. The walled castle is made of brick and natural stone. Until the middle of the seventeenth century it was well in the hands of the Bavières, an important family whose members sat in the then supreme court, namely the Council of Flanders. The castle was protected in 1955.

I hope you like it.
