Štěpánka is a neo-Gothic stone lookout tower on Hvězda Hill in the western Krkonoše Mountains, on the Příchovice Ridge. It is located in the cadastral area Příchovice near Kořenov, Kořenov, district Jablonec nad Nisou.rnrnThe tower is 24 meters high. From the lookout tower there is a nice view of Giant Mountains, Jizera Mountains, Zvičení, Male, Bezděz, Ralsko and Lužické hory.rnrnThe construction of the lookout tower was started in 1847 and Štěpánka (together with the lookout tower Žalý) ranks among the oldest observation towers in the Giant Mountains and the Jizera Mountains. In June 1847, the provincial governor of Archduke Štěpán visited the region and, in the framework of the control of the ongoing construction of the Imperial "Krkonoše" road from Liberec to Trutnov (today I / 14), it was on Hvězda Hill and in his honor, Prince Kamil Rohan commissioned construction, which he named "Stephanshöhe" = "Stephen's Prospect". But a year later the archduke was called back to Uher, and Prince Rohan lost interest in continuing patronage. For the first year only a stone base part was built up to about 4 meters. In 1888, this unfinished prospect from the prince was taken over by the Root Mountain Association, which completed it after four years of work and opened in August 1892 for the public.rnrnAccording to the rumor, Prince Rohan stopped building after the gypsy predicted that the completion of the tower would bring him death. The month after its completion actually died - but at a respectable age of 92 years.
