Photographer's Note

If my memory is correct, Rudyard Kilping has written something like "The East is the East, the West is the West and they shall never meet". Personally I hope that things will also stay that way... at least for the sake of cultural diversity. Anyway here on the background the east seems to have gotten quite close to the west and some guys on the foreground are symbolizing lutheran work ethics. The three bronze fellows are of course the famous landmark of Helsinki -The Three Blacksmiths. And behind there is the wall of the largest department store in Nordic countries - Stockman. There were "China weeks" going on in the department store and thatīs why there was this huge advertisement hanging on the wall. I used a Raynox 2020 teleconverter to shoot this and I had to crop the photo quite tightly in order to achieve this slightly surreal effect.
