Photographer's Note

Fakarava, population 837, is home to the second largest lagoon in the Tuamotu Atolls. Its rectangular reef encloses a rich ecosystem designated by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. I did some snorkeling off a beach by the main village of Rotoava that was loaded with living coral and all sorts of colorful reef fish.

Walking back to town, I ran across this very accomplished guitarist and singer - beer by his side, neighbors clapping along - just enjoying the day performing on his front "lawn" of crumbled lava rock.

There's a Joni Mitchell song about a guy who "played real good for free." Thought of that song when I listened to him.
