Photographer's Note

Esplanade de la Tourette, Marseille.

In front of the church of Saint Laurent, which dominates the Old Port of Marseille side Panier district, offers the Esplanade de la Tourette beautiful views of Notre-Dame de la Garde. Affectionately nicknamed "the Good Mother" by Marseille inhabitants, Notre-Dame de la Garde is part of Marseille landscape since 1864.

In addition to the panorama, the esplanade is decorated with the statue "The trainer of cubs." This work of Louis Bottinelly, dated 1911, is a showman who learns a tightrope with two cubs. Both plantigrades have been sculpted from Nénette, who had been rented to a trainer for the occasion.

Many people benefited of the panorama at the end of summer day. The layout of the statue from the Basilica spoke to me a kind of dialogue.
