Les Arènes de Nîmes sont un amphithéâtre romain qui a été bâti à la fin du Ier siècle pour divertir la population.
Lors des Grandes invasions, il se transforme en village fortifié, le castrum arenae où la population va se réfugier, puis constitue au moyen-age jusq'au XIXe siècle un quartier avec ses rues et ses boutiques.

L'édifice a une structure elliptique, longue de 133 mètres, large de 101 mètres et haute de 21 mètres et a une capacité de 13 000 places assises.

Nimes Arena is Roman amphitheatre which was built at the end of 1st Century to divert people.
During the Great invasions, it is transformed into strengthened village, castrum arenae where the population will take refuge, then constitutes durins Middle Ages until 19th Century a district with its streets and its shops.

The building has a 133 meters long elliptic broad structure, 101 wide and 21 high. It has a capacity of 13.000 sitted places.
