Photographer's Note

Description: In the garden of Chateau Milandes, once belonged to the famous Josephine Baker, you can watch a spectacular show with huge falcons, owls, fast sparrows and others. After the show they are returned to their cages. When the crowd is gone you can observe them upclose but beware don't lose your fingers...

Technical aspects: This big bird (about 50cm tall!) was observing me while he was sitting just behind the bars of his cage. Because I did not want the bars but a very strong portrait -with- the eyes at it's strongest I had to come very very close, my fingers were almost inside the the cage just in front of him (a G2 lens shows a different kind of distance in the viewfinder!). I had to beware of my fingers, remember I just saw in the show how fast and hungry this bird could be. Believe me he's huge, scary and you'll get hypnotized by the eyes.

Postprocessing: PhotoShop some L, CB and a bit of USM

Conditions: in de shade, hypnotized!

My Goal: First thing, not to lose any fingers! Second, when I saw this bird in real and I looked in the eyes I just had to capture this creature of nature at it's best.
