Photographer's Note

No, don't get me wrong, this is not the rocket launch at Cape Canaveral or Baikonur cosmodrome in Russia, but rather the tower of St. Martin church in the town of Landshut in Bavaria, behind a bamboo hut, a pavillion in the town park. The physical distance between the two objects is almost 1 km, and the effect shown here became possible because of the exceptional height of the tower. Built in Late Gothic style in 14-15 centuries by Master Hans von Burghausen, the tower rises above the town to more than 130 m, and can be seen literally from everywhere. I've posted a workshop to show you the true dimensions of the tower.

The town itself, not far from Munich, is a capital of the Niederbayern region. Its 800th anniversary was celebrated in 2004. The wedding of duke George with the Polish princess royal Jadwiga Jagiellon in 1475 was celebrated in Landshut with one of the most splendid festivals of the Middle Ages (called "Landshuter hochzeit"), and this event is celebrated until now every five years with a very colourful procession.
