Photographer's Note

As I promised yesterday here I show you the market place of Hilchenbach, a small town here in my region in southern Westphalia. It's famous for it's ensemble of several well preserved half-timbered houses, as you can see here. In the background you can see St. Vitus church, which I showed you yesterday.

Hilchenbach was first mentioned in 1292 in a deed in which was stipulated that the countess of Nassau donated the then small village to the nearby convent Keppel - with inhabitants! The buldings of this convent today house the grammar school of the town.
The then village however seems to be much more older, because there are hints that there was a church already about 950.
Today Hilchenbach has about 17000 inhabitants and it's a climatic spa with wonderful, densely wooded surroundings and hills up to 678 m.
