Photographer's Note

The village of Akrotiri lies in the southern half of the volcanic island of Santorini and high up in the centre of the village lies the ruins of the old Venetian Castle. Extensively damaged in the 1956 earthquake you can however still climb up onto the walls and then you are afforded a spectacular view of Santorini’s caldera. The belltower of one of the two old churches of Aghia Triada and Ypapanti tou Soteros, which are located in close proximity to the Venetian Castle, stands proud above the castle walls.
