Photographer's Note

I made this photo on my last years holiday in Carrara/Tuscany.

The marble of Carrara is one of the most famous marble varieties in the world. When you drive through the hills of Carrara you can see white mountain tops everywhere. But it is not snow what shimmers white from above. It is marble. They cut it in giant blocks and carry it to the valley where many factories make nice marmoreal things of it (like fugures, floortiles, and so on).

I uploaded the picture because it shows the way marble is cutted from the mountain. You can compare the dimensions by looking at the very small man with the yellow hardhat in the middle of the photo standing one level higher than the digger.
