Photographer's Note

This picture is made in the tower of Turaida castle near Sigulda (70km N-E of Riga). Turaida means 'gods garden'. This castle was build in 1214 by bishop Albert and the tower is still standing.

To reach the top you have to climb your way trough small stairs were you can hardly pass someone else. But when you have arrived at the top level the view is magnificent, you see the Gauja Valley and the river, and you can also see Sigulda. When you are on top of the building, check out the cravings into the stones from the tourists, some of them date back to 1920!

The castle grounds are definatly worth a visit as well, there is a museum with all kind of displays about life in a castle. And near the tower you find the gardens which are okay.
