Photographer's Note

With a daring step I jump onto a different lane and present you a bit of an artsy shot of one of Luxembourg City's main arteries.

The city is organised around a ring with most of the traffic flowing in a single direction around the city-centre pedestrian zone. Here we are coming northwards from the central train station, across the one-way Passerelle Viaduct (bridge) and into the one-way St Esprit tunnel. As one emerges on the other side of this tunnel one can either head down to the Côte d'Eich, a long descent into the valley that surrounds the City, or down the Boulevard Royal (one way, except for busses) that eventually turns left and heads back South, across the pont Adolphe, to the train station.

A pure accident, as most of my favourite pictures, this one came about as the car hit a little bump and I released the shutter some two seconds before the intended moment.

The reason behind this shot is quite simple: normally this tunnel is light up night and day, but since already the beginning of December they have finally decided to switch the lights off! A brilliant idea!
The speed limit used to be 50 km/h but they raised it to 70 km/h in the summertime, which is frankly quite odd, but nice at the same time. The tunnel is a bendy one, first veering off to the right as it descends before smoothly turning left as the climb starts.

The buildings you can perceive are quite old, and have traditionally been some of the most prized lots for living. However as the whole of Luxembourg is undergoing some major changes and shifts these buildings have lost their view of the surrounding city and valley to that of large concrete buildings fashioned like old ones. The plateau St Esprit is being turned from a sweet park and parking place with an intriguing fountain, into a large Judicial compound.

An advance Thank You to those amongst You who take the time to comment and/or criticise!
