Photographer's Note

The Oudegracht, or "old canal" is the well known waterway that flows through the city of Utrecht. The portion that flows through most of the center is flanked by the bi-level street / wharfs that in previous years allowed merchants to store their goods at the off load sites and then sell or distribute the goods on the street level. Many cavernous warehouses still exists for storage while others have since been converted to restaurants and night clubs.

Hunter green painted pedestrian rails run the complete circuit of the canals and offer impromptu parking fixtures for the thousands of bikes that frequent Utrecht on a daily basis.
