Photographer's Note

The Martinusbrug across the Catherijnesingel in Utrecht is relatively new. The bridge was built about twenty years ago, to close the large gap between the Bartholomeibrug and the Tolsteegbrug. For centuries, the people living outside the Singel, the water ring around the old town, had to walk a long way along the Singel to one of those two bridges. Now, the local government finally created a shortcut into town for their outsider citizens. So, were they grateful and happy to finally be closer to town? Strangely, they weren't. Actually, they were quite mad that they had been having to walk the long route for centuries and now the next generations were suddenly offered this shortcut.
