Photographer's Note

Sailing vessel "Loyal" is built in Rosendal in 1877 by Knut Johannesen Nes. This is the same man who managed to get this type of boat known worldwide as he also built Gjøa that Roald Amundsen used throughout the North-West Passage. "Loyal" was originally built for the transport of herring in barrels, but she later transported bacalao.
"Loyal" is probably the oldest of this type, still in use.

In 1974, John Hausberg bought "Loyal". John Hausberg and his son Audun Hausberg spent over 20 years to restore the "Loyal". "Loyal" is currently in use as a tourist and adventure boat based in Bergen and Forlandsvåg. 7. June 1997 "Loyal" was re-launched after the restoration.
"Loyal" has its own association, Loyal Friends, with about 500 members.
