Old and new architecture. Cathedral and city gate . Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (Sobor sw. Aleksandra Newskiego w Lodzi), ul. Kilinskiego 56 A rare example of Orthodox architecture in Poland.
It is the oldest and the most beautiful orthodox cathedral. It is located near the Lodz Fabryczna Station. Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Cathedral was founded in 1884 inaccordance with the project by Hilary Majewski, who gave the temple a neo-Byzantine character, visible in the domes and interior details. The rich interior has a beautiful iconostasis and old icons, as well as metal processional banners.

The old is definitely more stylish than the new. I like the 2 trams jockeying for a position to the right. Good sharpness and diffused light. The tram tracks add linear perspective and lead in lines. Tfs!

opinion is that the old architecture must
be continued!!!here we have a contrast
between them but I would like to see
an old construction too!!
otherwise the new architectural
details will change the whole
classical philosophy

Cześc ryszard, Nie wiedziałam, ze w Łodzi jest cerkiew Aleksandra Newskiego. Mała, ale bardzo ładna. Fajny kontrast z nowoczesnym budynkiem. Fajna kompozycja z czerwonymi tramwajami.
Ciagle zamierzam wybrać sie do Łodzi, ale w końcu mnie gdzieś ciagnie dalej.

I really like a cityscape like this! The mix of the traditional architecture of the church and the modern building behind it is excellent. Good inclusion of the two trams as well. The soft light is wonderful.

This is a rather brutal clash of architectural styles. The big building underscores the beauty of the cathedral. The trams are nicely included and their colours go well with those of both buildings next to them.

Interesting combination of the cathedral and the big block shaped building. The church has nice mix of colours. Those trams are well placed and tram lines make nice curves in foreground.

Piotr, that picture presents both the old and the new face of Lodz. The tramway is running in that part of the city. This is another cathedral Nevsky very different from the one built in Sofia but it is the same Neo Byzantine architecture style. A brand new building has been built next to the religious monument. It houses maybe offices.

Czesc Piotr,
Bardzo atrakcyjna fotografia.
Ja jako milosnik pocztowek oczywiscie troche zaluje ze katedra jest niec schowana a to slupy a to przewody a w tle mniej nastrojowy budynek.
Ale oczywiscie jako scena z miasta Lodzi praca jest bardzo ladna: przede wszystkim przyjemne swiatlo z atmosferycznymi ciemnymi chmurami. Dwa tramwaje dodaja uroku i koloru. Tory przyjemnie faluja na pierwszym planie. itp
Zreszta taki byl wlasnie Twoj zamiar jak tytul wskazuje: skontrastowanie starego z nowym i to rzeczywiscie udalo sie znakomicie.
Nie tak dawno planowalem wlasnie wizyte w Lodzi, niestety w koncu nie wiem czu do niej dojdzie i ta katedra wymieniana bywa jako jedna z najciekawszych rzeczy do zobaczenia w Lodzi a mimo to mam wrazenie ze widze jej fotografie po raz pierwszy.
Rzeczywiscie w Polsce taka architektura to rarytas. Alei w ogole jest bardzo oryginalna.

Good combination of old and new and a very beautiful orthodox cathedral.
Pretty colours of the large and small domes.
I really like the inclusion of the trams. With their red and yellow colours they look very attractive and are well placed on the picture.
