Photographer's Note

The Jewish ghetto in Warsaw was obliterated - all there is..... is a wall, pockmarked by bullets and shells which has been incorporated into a building owned by the Polish Mint, which marked the boundary of the ghetto and which was damaged during the uprising. Opposite is this building - the non-Jewish Polish boundary of the ghetto......this building I found profoundly sad...hauntingly sad......there were ghosts at the windows and in the courtyard with it's high enclosing glassless windows I heard the winter snow I also heard the crunch of German boots and the shouting of was a chilling prelude to the trip Jerzy and i took which ended at Treblinka.......the death place of so many hopes and wishes and dreams....and so much of our collective sense of humanity....

....and yet how much of our understanding of humanity and the human spirit in adversity has also emerged from those times.......I think if I were to go back here this is where I would leave my message to God....tucked into a gap in that wall......
