Photographer's Note

The University of Coimbra was founded in 1537, and apart from the grand architecture of the entire complex, its greatest treasure is joanina library dating from the eighteenth century and dominated by the opulence of baroque inspiration, the trompe d'oeil paintings and the endless shelves books. With more than 250,000 works, these ancient relics are impeccably preserved with the help of a colony of bats that inhabit the library and feeds on insects at night.
The city of Coimbra extends along the river Mondego, the highest point of the city, is located the prestigious University of Coimbra and its majestic library of the eighteenth century, and the charming Botanical Garden. This prime location also situated up the New Cathedral, the sixteenth century.
In the Lower City is the historical center, to unite these two areas is a street that has become a tourist attraction, the Quebra Costas Street a steep staircase and typical
street full of bars and various shops
