Photographer's Note

As a Catholic child growing up in Portugal the importance of Fatima was enormous. My cousins and I often role played Our Lady's visit to the 3 children, secretly we wished that we also be chosen for a visit.
This summer it was the first time I went to Fatima, and it was not as I had expected. There people walking on their knees fullfilling promises, there was sweet music and prayers, there was a feeling of awe all around those things I expected. What I did not expect were the peddlers, people interrupting pilgrims in their prayers to beg for money, a gypsy girl yelled at my husband when he did not have any more spare change (he'd given a few euros to another child).
I had just turned on my camera and was switching it from the screen mode to the viewfinder mode when I pushed the button. I then took few more shots of her but this one was my favorite.
It was very warm and the sun was awfully bright and I was just getting used to the new camera so most of my phots from this day are overexposed.
In
fatima network there is information on Fatima and the Virgin Mary, althoug I find some of the opinions in the site too harsh and antiquated there is a really good history link.
The photo was cropped and rotated.
