Photographer's Note

Location: Lisbon Cathedral; Sé. Built in the 12th century after an army of Portuguese soldiers led by King Afonso Henriques recaptured Lisbon after four centuries of Moorish rule.

About the Photo: The sun was setting and the last light was just hitting the top of the cathedral giving it a nice glow. The use of a polarizer darkened the sky and helped bring out the warm colors. The original shot was a vertical wide angle showing the entire church, but I cropped it horizontally.

I think it is interesting how Lisbon's oldest church resembles a fort more than a cathedral. I wonder if it has something to do with the hundreds of years of conflict between the Portuguese and the Moorish invaders.
